Baggage

Carry-on Baggage

Passengers are allowed to bring one piece of carry-on baggage, plus one personal item such as a small handbag or backpack. Those who are travelling in SAS Plus or Business can bring two pieces of carry-on baggage and a similar personal item. The maximum weight of carry-on luggage is 8kg (17lbs). Size limitations are H55cm x W40cm x D23cm (22 x 16 x 9 inches).

Liquids and gel containers must be 100mL or less and be packed in a clear, re-sealable bag for inspection at the security check point.

Checked Baggage

Checked bags are limited to the below allowances which are determined by the routing, class of travel and frequent flyer status.  Both EuroBonus and Diamond members are permitted two additional pieces of baggage free of charge. EuroBonus Silver and Star Alliance Gold members can check one extra item at no additional charge. http://www.flysas.com/images/spacer.gif

Checked baggage guidelines

Sports Equipment and Musical Instruments

A golf bag, ski equipment and musical instrument may be included as part of a passenger’s free baggage allowance if the item is within permitted size and weight allowances. For those with an allowance of one bag, these items will travel free of charge if no other bags are checked. Overweight or excess fees are charged if the number of bags exceeds the free allowance.

Passengers are urged to contact their Flight Centre consultant or SAS for specific packing instructions and carriage terms and conditions for sports equipment and musical instruments.

To pack a bike in a bike box: turn the handlebars in and secure to the frame, remove pedals and front wheel if possible, lower or remove seat post and deflate tyres.

Bulky Items

Restricted and Dangerous Goods

Knives, scissors and other sharp objects must travel in checked baggage. Additionally, all liquids and gel containers in cabin luggage must be under 100mL and stored in a clear, re-sealable plastic bag. This bag must be removed from cabin baggage and scanned separately at the security check point.

Any item that can post a risk to the safe operation of the aircraft is restricted from flying in checked luggage. These items include, but are not limited to explosives, fireworks, flammable materials, liquids and gasses, toxins and infectious materials. Passengers should check with SAS before transporting spare lithium batteries, such as those found in laptop computers. These batteries are often restricted from flying in checked baggage. Restrictions may also apply to any petrol powered equipment, even if the fuel has been drained.

If in doubt, leave it out. Even if you accidentally take a dangerous good on board an aircraft you can be fined and penalised.

Check-in

Check-In

SAS passengers may check-in for their flight at the airport ticket counter. Check-in opens approximately three hours before scheduled departure and for most international flights closes 60 to 90 minutes prior.  Guests checking in after closing time may be denied boarding in which case the fare could be forfeited. Self service kiosks are also provided at many Scandinavian and European airports. Passengers can use this self service device to print boarding passes, select seats and select the number of bags being checked in.
