Fly from the UK to Tokyo
Day 3
Tokyo City Tour
Get ready to explore Tokyo, a vibrant city filled with stunning skyscrapers, historic temples and traditional gardens. Visit Asakusa Kannon Temple, the oldest and most famous temple in Tokyo, before enjoying a cruise on the Sumida River. End the day by taking in the breathtaking views of the city from the top of the Tokyo Skytree.

Day 4
Mount Fuji
Travel to Odawara, a town in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park famous for its hot springs and stunning views of Mount Fuji. Take a cruise on Lake Ashi and enjoy the picturesque scenery, then ride the Hakone Ropeway cable car to the top of Mount Owakudani for panoramic views of the volcanic valley.

Day 5
Matsumoto Castle
Embark on a drive to Matsumoto and discover the stunning 16th-century Matsumoto Castle, known as the 'Crow Castle'. You'll be required to remove your shoes and climb steep wooden steps to explore certain areas of the castle. If you choose not to enter the castle, take a stroll around the gardens, moat, and architecture instead. After lunch, head to a miso house to learn about the traditional process of making this famous Japanese seasoning. Then, travel to Takayama, located in the Hida mountains. Check in to your hotel in Takayama and unwind with the relaxing onsen facilities.

Explore Takayama
Discover the charming town of Takayama by starting your day at the bustling Miyagawa Morning Market where you can taste some of the local produce (at your own expense). Afterward, take a leisurely walk around the picturesque traditional houses and visit museums such as the Takayama Festival Floats Exhibition Hall, Kusakabe Folk Museum, Takayama Jinya and Kamisannomachi Street. Spend the day exploring the town on foot, taking in the rich cultural heritage and breathtaking views.

Day 7
Shirakawago and Kanazawa
Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Shirakawago, known for its traditional Gassho-Zukuri farmhouses, some of which are over 250 years old. Explore the area on foot for 1-2 hours, including climbing some stairs in the houses to see the higher levels. Later, make your own washi paper and travel to Kanazawa. Take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful Kenrokuen gardens before checking into your hotel.

Day 8
Kanazawa and Kyoto
Today, you'll learn the process of how gold leaf is made and applied to everyday objects, and try it yourself by decorating a pair of chopsticks. Later, visit the traditional Higashi Chaya (Eastern Teahouse District), including a historical geisha house, where you'll be required to remove your shoes before entering. After lunch, drive to Kyoto, Japan's ancient capital, check in to your hotel and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 9
Explore Kyoto
Begin the day with a visit to Ryoanji and the famous Kinkakuji, also known as the ‘Golden Pavilion'. Shoes must be removed at both temples. Spend approximately 2-3 hours sightseeing on foot. In the afternoon, visit a restored Japanese wooden townhouse to try your hand at origami and partake in a tea ceremony with a tea master.

Day 10
Discover Nara
Start your day with a visit to the famous Fushimi Inari Shrine and its iconic thousands of vermillion torii gates, where you will walk up part of the mountain and enjoy a steady-paced walk of around 15 minutes on flat roads and steps to reach the tori gates. Next, transfer by coach to Japan's former imperial capital, Nara, and visit Todaiji Temple, the world's largest wooden structure and home to Japan's largest Buddha. Take a stroll through Isui-en Gardens, known for its natural ponds, spending about 3 hours on foot.

Day 11
Koyasan
Embark on a scenic drive to Koya-san, the heart of Shingon Buddhism. Marvel at Okunoin, Japan's largest cemetery and the final resting place of Kobo Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism. Then, explore the Kongobuji Temple and the Garan temple complex. The walk through Okunoin Cemetery to the mausoleum of Kobo Daishi is approximately 2km long and may involve some uneven surfaces. Finally, make your way to Osaka, where you will check in to your hotel.

Explore Osaka
Start your day with a visit to Osaka Castle. Take a 15-minute walk from coach parking on a flat road to reach the castle. Then, take a leisurely stroll around the Dotonbori district, a food paradise where you can savor delicious local delicacies. After that, enjoy a 20-minute cruise along the Yodogawa River. The afternoon is yours to spend at leisure before a farewell dinner in the evening.
