Days 1-2
Fly from the UK to Osaka
Day 2
Osaka
Upon arrival, meet an English-speaking representative who will transfer you to your hotel in the city with the rest of the day to use at your leisure.
Day 3
Nara and Osaka Highlights
Embark on a journey to Nara, the former imperial capital of Japan. Explore Todaiji Temple, home to the world's largest wooden structure and Japan's largest Buddha. Afterward, continue to Osaka to savor a delightful lunch in the lively Dotonbori District, followed by visits to Osaka Castle and a relaxing cruise along the Yodogawa River.
Day 4
Himeji Castle
Travel to Himeji and marvel at the splendid 17th Century Himeji Castle. Take a stroll through the adjacent Koko-en garden, immersing yourself in traditional Japanese aesthetics. After lunch, journey to Hiroshima, approximately 3.5 hours away.
Day 5
Hiroshima and Miyajima
Visit the Peace Memorial Park and Museum in Hiroshima, taking time to reflect on the city's history. Enjoy a ferry ride to Miyajima Island, where you can explore Itsukushima Shrine and have free time to wander the charming streets or hike up to Daisho-in Temple.
Day 6
Bullet Train to Kyoto
Catch a bullet train from Hiroshima to Kyoto, a city steeped in history and tradition. Visit the serene Ryoanji Temple, known as the 'temple of the peaceful dragon,' and the iconic Kinkakuji, the 'Golden Pavilion.' Enjoy a day of sightseeing on foot.
Day 7
Japanese Tea Ceremony and Fushimi Inari Shrine
Begin the day at the majestic Kiyomizu Temple, followed by a traditional tea ceremony led by a Tea Master. After lunch, explore the renowned Fushimi Inari Shrine, famous for its vibrant torii gates. Expect a 15-minute walk from coach parking to the shrine.
Day 8
Kanazawa
Embark on a 4-hour coach journey from Kyoto to Kanazawa. Delight in lunch at a local restaurant and then wander through the beautiful Kenroku-en Garden. Discover contemporary art at the Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art before settling into your hotel.
Day 9
Gokayama and Shirakawago
Visit the Nomura Samurai House and garden before traveling to Gokayama, where you'll try your hand at making washi paper. Continue to the 300-year-old Gassho-style Wada House in Shirakawago. Finally, reach Takayama, check into your hotel, and enjoy the onsen facilities.
Day 10
Takayama Exploration
Begin the day at the Miyagawa Morning Market, sampling local produce. Take a leisurely stroll through the town, visiting museums and enjoying the traditional houses. Spend free time in Kamisannomachi Street, experiencing the charm of Takayama.
Day 11
Matsumoto Castle and Nagano
Journey to Matsumoto and explore the impressive Matsumoto Castle, known as 'Crow Castle.' Learn about the process of making miso soup and visit a wasabi farm before heading to Nagano. Discover the Zenkoji Temple and return to Nagano for the night.
Day 12
Snow Monkeys and Zenkoji Temple
Travel to Yudanaka in search of the famous snow monkeys at Jigokudani Yaen-Koen Monkey Park. Observe these wild creatures up-close in their natural habitat. Continue to the historic Zenkoji Temple before returning to Nagano.
Day 13
Mount Fuji
Travel to Mount Fuji's base, enjoying the stunning views of the surrounding lakes. Visit the 5th Station or the Fuji San World Heritage Centre, and explore the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum. Check into your hotel in Mishima or Gotemba.
Day 14
Hakone Exploration
Transfer to Hakone and cruise on Lake Ashi before riding the Hakone ropeway to the Owakudani Valley. Continue to Tokyo after lunch.
Day 15
Discover Tokyo
Uncover the serene side of Tokyo by exploring its tranquil backstreets, old temples, and gardens like the Imperial Palace East Gardens and Meiji Jingu Shrine. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure.
Day 16
More Tokyo
Begin the day in Asakusa, visiting Senso-ji temple, and then head to the towering Skytree for breathtaking views from the observation deck. Enjoy free time in the afternoon before a memorable dinner cruise on a traditional yakata boat.

Depart Tokyo and return to the UK
