Your Example Itinerary
Day 1
Fly from the UK to Calgary
Day 2
Calgary
Arrive in Calgary and start exploring with a walk around the city after your flight. Calgary offers plenty of diverting exhibitions, including Studio Bell National Music Centre and Canada’s Sport Hall of Fame, with food and brewery tours for the more gastronomically minded. While in the city, you’ll learn more about Canada’s dinosaurs with a visit to the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller, followed by the canyons, coulees and hoodoos of the Badlands, a landscape that has evolved over millions of years.
Accommodation at 4* Sandman Signature Calgary Downtown Hotel
Days 3-5
Waterton Lakes National Park
Cross the prairies and admire views across to Montana on your journey to Waterton Lakes National Park, perhaps calling in at Lethbridge or the rock art near Cypress Hills along the way. Waterton Lakes National Park is home to Red Rock Canyon and plentiful breath-taking views, a great place to get outdoors and explore the waterfalls, either on foot, or by boat. While you’re there look out for mountain goats, elk, wolves, coyotes and grizzly bears.
Accommodation at 3* Ramada by Wyndham Pincher Creek
Days 6-7
Kananaskis
Continue to pretty Kananaskis via the Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, a huge World Heritage-listed cliff, used for over 5,500 years by Canada’s First Nations to hunt buffalo. Drive part of the Cowboy Trail, past plenty of ranches and through the Continental Divide of the Rockies to Kananaskis, an outdoor playground offering many activities. Choose from mountain biking, horse riding, hiking, canoeing and golf, or simply relax and enjoy the scenery.
Accommodation at 4* Kananaskis Mountain Lodge Autograph Collection
Day 8
Lake Louise
Admire the twinkling blue waters at Lake Louise, an impossibly blue body of water in the heart of the mountains in Banff National Park. While Lake Louise might be the most famous, it’s the delightful Moraine Lake that’s perhaps the most spectacular – but we’ll leave that for you to decide. Gaze at the views from the terrace at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, a grand hotel that looks like a castle, or head out and try one of the hiking, canoeing and climbing trips on offer.
Accommodation at 5* Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise
Days 9-10
Banff
Continue on to Banff, found in the Alberta Rockies, a ski resort in winter and an adventure playground in summer. Soak in the hot springs, explore the Museum of the Canadian Rockies, hike the trails or even go caving, then soar high above the Rocky Mountains and soak up the far-reaching views from the top of Sulphur Mountain on the Banff Gondola. While you’re out and about, keep your eyes peeled for wolverine, lynx, bears and birds.
Accommodation at 4* Banff Caribou Lodge and Spa
Days 11-12
Return to Calgary and depart for the UK
