5 Reasons You Should Visit Australia’s Coral Coast

There’s no doubt that Australia is one of the most remote and fascinating destinations on the planet, and the Coral Coast in particular highlights everything that Australia stands for. Great scenery, great people and great food. The Coral Coast region starts just under two hours north of Perth in Cervantes and runs for 1,100km north to Exmouth.

Amazing Weather

The Coral Coast is lucky enough to have great weather, all year round. So no matter when you visit, you won’t need a jacket. I visited in the ‘coldest’ season. Cold, if cold means having barbecues outside every day and never taking my sunglasses off! This is definitely something to consider if you want to travel to Australia but are restricted on dates; the Coral Coast is perfect whenever you are able to travel.

The Diversity

Some are magical, others strange or utterly beautiful, but one thing’s for sure – the Coral Coast is home to some rare, fabulous natural wonders. From the vibrance of the Pink Lake, to the vast plains of Shell Beach, no two places are the same. I would highly recommend doing a road trip along the coast. This allows you to see all the nooks of this part of the world – without missing anything! Most of these places are off the beaten track, so a car is the best way to reach them. Because everything is spread out, it’s a great way to split the journey up.

The Beaches

The West Coast of Australia has the longest stretch of coast on the continent. And the Coral Coast takes up 1,100km of that. With the Indian Ocean hugging the whole of the coast – you can imagine what these beaches are like. Everywhere we went, the water was crystal clear. Turtles, Sting Rays and Dolphins were all visible from the shore. The sand was like white flour in places, and in others a beautiful earthy red. The beaches on the Coral Coast were also quiet, I would say, 80% of the beaches we visited didn’t have a single other person on them.

The People

Australians are renowned for being super friendly. And nowhere highlights this more than the Coral Coast. We were lucky enough to be taken around places by a bunch of locals who really knew the area. They were so welcoming and couldn’t do enough to make sure we had a pleasant stay (and a cold beer in hand).

The Sunsets

Now, if you’re like me and love a sunset, then the Coral Coast is definitely the place for you. Unlike the east - where the sun will set over built up areas and land - you can see a beautiful beach sunset almost every night. Each night we would head somewhere, whether it be the beach or the top of a cliff to watch the sunset over the glistening Indian Ocean. As there is very little light pollution in WA, the clearly visible stars in the dark night sky were mesmerising, a sight that will stay with me forever.
