Tough decisions at Couran Cove Island Resort, Gold Coast, Australia

Upon arrival at Couran Cove Island Resort you will be faced with a very tough decision - what to do first. The active, the lazy, the old, the young, the hungry - all are catered for here.

Perhaps the ferry trip to the resort through the cinematic broadwaters will inspire you to take a swim in the 25m heated lap pool. Maybe you would rather explore the island by land; a stroll along the boardwalk through the vibrant green rainforest, a cycle on the complimentary bikes, ramble the winding gravel paths that lead to bright white sand dunes.

Feeling a little less active? Why not stretch out on the deserted beach which stretches itself as far as the eye can see. There is a chance to get up close with the Australian wildlife; have a cuddle with Horton the lazy koala, spy a wallaby enjoying a graze on the grass, hop over a snake crossing the footpath. Not forgetting the free kayaks and catamarans, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor gymnasiums, day spa... the list goes on!

Once exhausted you’ll be able to relax in your cabin. Depending on your preference this could be overlooking the marina, the lagoon or inside the forest. Again, a tough decision to make! The accommodation is sensitive to the environment; spacious rooms, clean design, eco friendly amenities, making the absolute most of the views outside. All rooms include complimentary broadband connection (with wifi available in the main reception and restaurant area) and a survival pack in the bathroom, which includes the very sensible addition of insect repellent!

It would be a shame to stay at Couran Cove and not explore the surrounding areas. Take some time to get off the island and see the Gold Coast with Imagine Cruises. From the luxurious Broadwater properties to Surfers Paradise skyrises the backdrop is fascinating, whilst staff onboard make the cruise most pleasurable.

With so much activity you are bound to end up ravenous so it is just as well the food on the resort is simply delicious. From fresh fish to bbq chicken skewers, saintly fruit salad or indulgent chocolate profiteroles the food is plentiful and perfect. Dining spots include the choice of the Poolside Cafe or overlooking the marina at the Boardwalk Bar. Service is faultless, from the moment you check in your luggage on the mainland to the bittersweet moment they hand it back at the end of your stay. Deciding what to do at Couran Cove is tough, leaving is even tougher.

Couran Cove is situated on South Stradbroke Island on the Gold Coast of Australia and has it's own private ferry terminal 1 hours drive south from Brisbane. I flew to Brisbane from London via Singapore but there are several options for stopovers on this route depending on your budget.
