Inside the Singapore Airlines Lounge at London Heathrow
Sick and tired of the hustle and bustle of the airport terminal? Look no further. If you’re flying Business or First Class with Singapore Airlines – or one of its partners – the SilverKris Lounge at Heathrow Terminal 2 has you covered. Here we give you a behind the scenes glimpse into this luxurious, pre-flight haven…
The entrance
Located opposite Gate B44, the entrance to the SilverKris Lounge is a bit of a walk from security (approx. 10-12mins), but it’s more than worth the effort. As soon as you step through the glass doors you’re ensconced by a feeling of calm. The décor is modern, bright and Asian infused, and the wonderful staff behind the desk welcome you into this enclave with beaming smiles. It really is how all good airport experiences should be. As you enter the Business Class lounge, a working area – perfect if you need to fire off a few emails before your flight or print off some last-minute documentation – is to your right. But turn left and that’s where the real magic happens…
The food and drink
Food and drink is a big deal in the SilverKris Lounge, so much so that the first thing you come across when you enter is a vast buffet. Food services here are based around key flights; in the mornings you can expect fresh pastries, fruit, yoghurt, and all the elements of the perfect full English breakfast. Lunch and dinner offer up both Asian and Western-inspired fare – in particular a delicious selection of pastas and curries. A lot can be said for desserts here too: I thoroughly recommend the Singapore Sling ice-cream if you have a sweet tooth, as well as the strawberries and cream popcorn.
And, speaking of Singapore Slings, what better way to start your Journey to Singapore, and beyond, than with the island-nation’s signature cocktail? The knowledgeable bartenders can whip up a selection of drinks for you, including this namesake beverage. The buffet area also boasts a ‘hydration station’ – which I really loved. It’s easy to get dehydrated when you’re flying, and this is the perfect way to combat that.
The seating
The SilverKris Lounge offers a range of seating – from dining tables and chairs to sofa-style areas – ideal for relaxing, eating and drinking, or working if you’re travelling on business. Individual pods, complete with high partitions and power outlets, are great for a combination of the three. Travelling with family? There’s even a play area for kids here. As for aviation geeks, they’ll love the high-backed chairs next to the lounge’s floor-to-ceiling windows. This is the ultimate spot to sit if you want to watch planes taking off and landing, cocktail or coffee in hand.
Additional facilities
Perhaps my favourite thing about the SilverKris Lounge at Terminal 2 is the laid-back vibe. That, and the fact you can refresh with a shower before your flight. Complimentary Wi-Fi, newspapers and magazines, and TV are all available while the lounge is open (from 5.30am-10pm daily), and there’s constant access to snacks and drinks – even outside of the usual meal service times.
The First Class lounge
For those travelling in First Class, or specifically Singapore Airlines’ luxurious Suites, you’ll find a dedicated area just next door to the main Business Class lounge. I was lucky enough to pop my head in for a few minutes…
If at all possible, the feeling of tranquillity here was even more omnipresent than in the Business Class lounge. Passengers here enjoy all the benefits of its neighbouring lounge, with the added bonus of an a la carte dining service and a more exclusive seating area. Both lounges overlook the terminal and its runways too, so you can always keep an eye on what’s happening around the airport.
