What can travellers expect from a holiday to France during COVID-19?

France’s main holiday attractions – from museums to wineries – have started to reopen, however the country has taken a gradual approach, and it’s expected that numbers visiting these places will be limited and the offering will be scaled down.  As a result, holidaymakers should expect reduced capacity/availability and we recommend pre-booking activities and restaurant reservations where possible.

What’s open in France right now?

Hotels, campsites, cafes, bars and restaurants in France are now all open to the public. In areas that were more heavily impacted by the virus, such as Paris, eateries and bars will only be open for outdoor seating. Public swimming pools are also now allowed to open and on the beaches you are permitted to sunbathe or have a picnic – although visitor numbers are being controlled.

Most tourist attractions, such as museums, zoos and theme parks, have also started to reopen, although Disneyland Paris remains closed until further notice. Nightclubs are also currently closed.

What do I need to know about social distancing and PPE in France?

The French government is encouraging all locals and tourists to keep at least a one-metre distance between each other and to avoid hugging, kissing and shaking hands. When visiting restaurants, masks must be worn when walking inside but can be removed when seated. The same applies when travelling to the beach or a pool. If you’re planning to use public transport at all during your stay, wearing a mask is also mandatory. It’s also worth noting that gatherings of more than 10 people are not permitted in public places.
