The best songs for an all-American road trip

Here at Flight Centre we think that road trips are a great way to see a country. You have the freedom to travel at your own pace and enjoy the views along the way. You can stop when you see something interesting, pull over at the beach to rest or enjoy your lunch, climb that mountain that has been looming in the distance and blast your favourite songs with the volume turned up as the whole car sings along.

We asked you on Facebook which countries you think are best for road trips and had a great response.

Some of your favourites included New Zealand, thanks to the breath taking scenery, Canada for those snowy peaks and Australia for cruising next to the surf. We also discovered that you’re a patriotic crowd and the UK came in as the fifth most popular place for a road trip thanks to our rolling hills and lush countryside.

And the most popular place for a road trip was by far the USA.

Road trips have been a classic American pastime since the invention of the automobile and that has been reinforced by countless movies that have either begun or ended with our main characters driving off into the sunset.

The USA is also great from some timeless road trip tunes whether you want to get your kicks on Route 66 or fancy a bit of California dreamin’ or want to go road trippin with your two favourite allies...

So we’ve put together 10 of our favourite all-American road trip tunes to inspire your next trip.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Road Trippin'

Phantom Planet – California

Journey – Don’t Stop Believing

The Eagles - Hotel California

Lynyrd Skynryd – Sweet Home Alabama

Rolling Stones – Route 66

The Mamas and Papas – California Dreamin’

Albert Hammond - It never Rains in Southern California
