The Flight Centre Restless Triathlon is for children and teenagers in Years 3-13 and is set to take place at Bradfield College in West Berkshire – near the town of Reading – next month. This incredible event is the brainchild of local entrepreneur and father Jim Sewell and involves teams of four taking on a challenging course of swimming, bike riding and running. Each entrant must raise £100 to be granted free entry.
All funds raised on the day will go to Restless Development, an international development charity that puts young people at the very heart of dealing with the issues that affect them, their communities, and their countries.
"I was a volunteer with the charity in Zimbabwe between school and university many, many years ago," said Tessa Murray. "I’m now a trustee [of Restless Development] and love how they help young people around the world have a voice and fulfill their potential. It is a charity which is hugely respected for being creative and effective. "
When asked why the they chose to run a triathlon, Tessa said "Having spoken to children in a number of schools, triathlon was a sport that came up as one they would like to give a go, but not in too competitive an environment. It’s also so important for all children to know how to swim and ride a bike and lots have learned how to do it just to compete in these events."
Participants will receive medals and goodie bags as well as free parking, which is also available to spectators.
